Painkiller addiction in the United States is a major on going problem. According to the National Institutes of Health 20 percent of people have used some form of prescription drug for recreational use. In the 1960 and 1970, the drug of choice was either Cocaine or Heroin, in the 1980′s and 1990′s Crack Cocaine was the drug.

Prescription drug addiction is only behind meth, cocaine, and heroin with the number of people that are addicted to it. Unlike cocaine, meth, or heroin a person does not have to put him or herself in harm’s to get some drugs to help you with their painkiller addiction by going down to some seedy street corner to cop and possibly get ripped off.

Prescription drugs are almost always readily available in the home. Why risk being robbed or harmed when all you have to do is go to the medicine cabinet in the home of a friend or family member. I can not tell you the number of times I have used this little trick in my using days. Another option is going to the doctor and telling them you have some type of severe pain and for the price of the visit and to fill the prescription you have yourself a bunch of painkillers. Back in my using days before I got clean I had several doctors that I seen of a regular basis.

Addiction to pain medication is not only ruining families but a whole new generation of youths who in record numbers are becoming addicted to drugs such as OxyContin, Vicodin, lortab and a slew of others.

The number of teens and adults between the ages of 12 and 25 has jumped from four hundred thousand to two million and that was ten years ago, the number has since steadily risen with no signs of it slowing down.

In general the abuse of prescription drugs use among men and women is roughly about the same until you get to the younger folks then females have been found to useĀ  painkillers more often then their male counter parts.

Now if you think you may have an addiction to painkillers and really want to stop using painkillers then I would suggest that you go to prescription drug addiction rehab.

How to prevent pharming parties aka pharm party’s

Many teenagers have learned from their peers how to raid there family and friends medication cabinets. Now days the big thing for are youths is stealing the pills and taking them to a pharm parties. This is a growing problem and one parents need to keep an eye out for. A good way to start is by putting you medications under lock and key and suggest this to friends and family you just may save someones life.

Getting through painkiller withdrawal

If you are addicted to opioid painkillers this is probably the best bet for you. One reason for this is that you will be in a controlled environment so you will not be able to use drugs. Another is that they can offer a medical opiate detox which I am sure many of you will want because if you have never been through opiate withdrawal it can be brutal and with this type of detox for the most part is painless.

There will be trained staff members present around the clock seven days a week. They will basically be there to make sure you detox goes according to plan. They will also be there to talk to should you feel the need plus they will administer medications to ease the pain of opiate panikiller withdrawal.
