Achieving small goals helps an addict see that he or she has the means to achieve larger goals as they learn how to beat drug addiction.

When I was in long term drug rehab it was suggested to me by my therapist to set some short term and some long term goals. My first short term goal was to attend 90 meetings in 90 days which I completed and went on to do another 90 in a row.

My next goal was to start attending college and to make it through one semester. I did this also. Each time I achieved this goal of completing a semester I would re commit. Let me just add here that I had not been to school in over 30 years and I had was a GED. Furthermore, I was and still am maintain a 3.5 GPA. That’s not to bad for a recovering dope fiend like me.

I love to write about this and share my experience strength and hope so that others can see that they to can get clean and let their lost dreams awaken as they find a new way to live in recovery. I am 100% sure that any addict can stop drug abuse, lose the desire to use drugs, and find a new way to live. This includes all of you out there. I wish everyone could learn to overcome drug addiction but unfortunately this is not going to happen but we can do are part and try to help as many suffering addicts as we can.
