Methadone detox
If you or someone that you love that has a problem with methadone and you think they would benefit from a methadone detox , there are many different detox help options available for this kind of addiction.
Methadone is an extremely potent synthetic opiate which makes it very difficult to stop methadone. It is generally prescribed for people with pain that is associated with multiple sclerosis, cancer, spinal injuries, and other chronic pain related problems and disease; however it is very hard for anyone who is addicted to this drug to do a methadone detox cold turkey. I have kicked methadone like this and let me tell you I was sicker than a dog.
Methadone is also prescribed to patients who are addicted to other opiates such as heroin. When used correctly, it can be a very effective way to deter the withdrawal from different drugs. Unfortunately, many people do get addicted to methadone while getting clean from other opiate drugs like heroin and end up with a methadone addiction which they did not bargain for.
Methadone can cause a bit of a euphoric, or high, feeling if taken in larger doses. This sometimes will lead to people who have been used to other drugs giving them that feeling, abusing methadone in order to achieve the same effect.
Methadone detox
There are different options for methadone detox. There are treatment centers that specialize in helping methadone users through rehabilitation. These medical facilities are a safe way to get off of the drug successfully. You will be monitored by a complete medical staff through the entire process, because of some of the dangerous withdrawal symptoms that you may experience. Some of these symptoms can include fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, depression, difficulty breathing, seizures, and in some cases death.
For these reasons it is extremely important that you do not try to stop taking the drug all at once. Your body and nervous system is so used to having the drug to function that it may begin to shut down. You must seek medical help if you are going through methadone withdrawal symptoms.
There are other ways to get methadone treatment as well. There are some newer prescriptions medications on the market today like suboxone that can help you successfully detox from methadone. These should only be taken under the care of a physician as some of them can be just as bad as a methadone addiction. It will do you no good to replace one addiction with another.
If you are addicted to methadone, it is very important for you to seek help it may very well save your life but it will make your loved ones very happy too. I would suggest that if you are ready then you should look into finding a methadone rehab.
Keep in mind that a lot of heroin addicts will use methadone detox as a way of stopping there use of heroin and it will work but at the same time a lot of patients become addicted to it. If you are thinking about using methadone to stop using heroin I would use it for the bare minimum amount of time lets say 2 weeks tops.
Good luck
