Long term drug treatment

Long term drug treatment is probably the contributing factor that saved me from dying. I would have to say that drinking and using drugs pretty much ran the show as far as my life was concerned. The truth is I was spinning out of control my drug and alcohol abuse was getting a lot worse at this point and I was using more and more to get the desired effect.

I was all torn up and felt like my world was crumbling around me and there was nothing I could do. The thing that actually saved me was that I was in residential treatment and there was long term drug rehab right next door in the same building. I was scared to death of returning home because at the time I was living with another heroin addict that was still using. Well I lfinally mustered up the courage to see if maybe I could get in so I filled out an application to go into long term drug treatment.

I believe that God was working in my life at this time because I was like one day left in treatment before I had to go home and low and behold some on next door in long term decided to use and were kicked out. This opened a space and after a vote from the other addicts I was excepted.

If not for this I seriously doubt that I would be clean today and writing posts like this to help others stop using drugs and learn to get clean and find a new way to live.

The thought that comes to mind when you mention long term rehab as a possible solution to their using to someone is that it sounds pretty much like if they were to go to rehab life as they know it would be over. Their first question is usually how long is it and when you tell them anywhere from 6 months to 2 years they about pass out. Even people who know for a fact that addiction is killing them will say that long term drug treatment would cramp their style. What exactly that style is I am not sure. When I was using my style was that I had to do anything I could to get one more. It just sounds shocking to them at first but if they can get past this they have a chance.

Now if you do decide to go to long term treatment the chances are good that you will be able to work so if you are concerned about losing your job look for a rehab that allows you to work. Now some people may have to relocate and for a lot of people this is the best thing that can happen to them. Getting out of the environment that you used drugs in is a humongous relief and it really does help. I know it helped me not to be in the town I used to live in.
