Inpatient treatment offers a few advantages that outpatient detox does not inpatient. Inpatient is a type of treatment that provides 24 hour care in a live-in-facility and in some cases a patient can stay in the facility for months at a time. Inpatient may be more effective because it does offer a more structured atmosphere and helps a person forget about all the distractions in life and focus on getting better. Because if we do not stop using alcohol and drugs we will have nothing; we may lose our jobs, families, and all our money if we do not stop drug abuse.

The advantages of detoxing in an outpatient facility

One definite advantage of outpatient  treatment is that a person will not have to take any time off of work or miss any classes at school. That is when this type of detox may be the answer. Outpatient treatment cost considerably less than inpatient detox because housing is not provided and there are fewer hours of treatment. When you use this method it requires a person to put a lot of extra work into their treatment, this can be a challenge because of all the temptations that may surround them.

If a person fears they may give into temptation, inpatient detox care may be best. Outpatient  is recommended for those who only have mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms; that can be dealt with in an outpatient setting. So if a patient is willing to put in a lot of extra work, then outpatient may be the answer for them.

Disadvantages of outpatient treatment

One disadvantage of outpatient treatment is that the people who are actually at the groups are all new to recovery therefore they may think they know it all because they have been clean a couple weeks. Don’t get me wrong this is great but they just have not really have had to put there recovery to a lot of tests. Another thing is that there may be people there who are still using and they may try to get you to use with them.

I would look for a treatment center that will offer after care as well. Remember you are not alone and there is help out there so you can get your life back together and start being the person you and your family loved before the addiction. You may also find that most insurance will pay for it and there are other financial assistance programs.

Just keep in mind that you are there for yourself and do not believe every thing that people say this is pretty much like anywhere else in the world where you have to think about what these addicts are saying and then either use it or discard it. It is still possible to get some very good recovery tools there so keep an open mind because there is no way that you can graft new ideas on a closed mind. This  is a great step for many before they are on their own and have to find your drug addiction recovery path.

Good luck
