What happens in heroin addiction rehab is that you will go in for heroin detox and then spend a little over a week in residential treatment. You will basically attend groups, lectures, 12 step meetings such as AA and NA , and substance abuse counseling.  This is not a vacation away from drugs but in some cases it is enough to help people make the necessary lifestyle change in their life that they need to recover from heroin.  Obviously, a 21 day program is much better at producing better recovery rates  but longer treatment programs are harder to come by now days.
