Addiction Recovery Tools for addicts who want to recover from addiction

It’s not impossible to get over an addiction and on with your life if you have the proper addiction recovery tools at your disposal. The number one tool for recovery is yourself. You and you alone can say that you have an addiction and that you’ve had enough of the life you use to live and then do something about it.

Yes, there are friends and family and a whole host of others who can, and want, to help you along your path to sobriety, but when you think very hard on this they can only be there when you need them if you let them. After you’ve chosen a life of clarity, and I mean really truly made the conscious decision to recover and that addiction is not what you want your life to revolve around, then you can be free from addiction.

Addiction recovery foundation

12 step programs are a good place to start your inventory of tools to overcome an addiction. These can teach you the basics of how to life a free of addiction. Like I said before it’s up to you not to relapse. If you are going to start attending AA- NA as a means to help you with your recovery it’s a good idea to be committed. One way to do this is to commit to going to a meeting a day for 90 days. I done it and it’s a great way to build a solid recovery foundation. One thing I can tell you is that from my experience action is the key to getting clean and staying clean for recovering drug addicts.

Speaking for myself I found that my life began to change drastically at around 90 days clean during this time I faced a lot of my fears without using drugs or alcohol. One of my fears was sharing at a meeting my fear was that I would sound stupid and what I had to say did not matter. I found I was wrong on all accounts because after that meeting a fellow recovering addict came up to me and said that he really liked what I shared. After this it was on you could not shut me up.

Learning to forgive people who have wronged you in the past helps ease your thoughts about your own wrong doings. Not allowing yourself to go back to addiction is a zero tolerance policy you must adopt.

Do not tolerate thinking of any kind involving relapse. Therapy is strongly recommended. Being able to talk to someone about what your feeling will also help. I think drug counseling can be one of the best tools you can have at least it was for me because I was able to unload every thing that I had ever done that I felt bad about with my therapist. Needless to say this was a huge relief and it felt awesome being free again.

Writing a letter to your addiction and bidding it farewell is also extremely rewarding. If you do this you could have some sort of party with others in recovery and burn it in a campfire or something use your own imagination we also learn to be creative in recovery.
These are just a few of the tools with in your grasp. Be sure to use them and above all else have faith in yourself.

Good luck
